ASUS will be using an x86 processor from Intel or AMD’s ranges for the Windows 8 tablet or using Windows on ARM and picking something like a next-gen Tegra chip such as Kal-El and Android version of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 2 will be cheaper than its Windows 8 counterpart, but the grown up Microsoft OS will allow for more complex document creation and editing. While the Android version would cost the same as the existing one, the Windows model will carry a premium due partly to the cost of the operating system and  it appears that both the Android and Windows 8 models are on track for a release at some point in 2012.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer is a slate-style tablet with an optional keyboard docking station which sort of transforms the device into a laptop and the dock also has a separate battery which nearly doubles the run time. Currently the Eee Pad Transformer is designed to run Google Android 3.x Honeycomb, but now Eee Pad Transformer rumored to run on Windows 8. That certainly makes sense since the new tablet won’t go into production until later on in 2012 when Windows 8 is expected to launch. Like the original Eee Pad Transformer, its successor will feature an optional keyboard dock with built-in battery for extended mobile use. Windows 8 itself will offer a much more tablet-friendly UX than Windows 7 currently provides, but the keyboard dock will still come in handy for those times when an on-screen keyboard just doesn’t quite cut the mustard. Actual hardware specs for the Transformer 2 will likely not be known until much closer to its release, though Asus could certainly be testing Windows 8 on the current Transformer’s ARM internals. Its dual-core, 1Ghz Tegra processor and 1GB RAM should provide sufficient horsepower, at least for basic testing at this stage of the game. ASUS currently starts the Honeycomb Transformer at $399 for the tablet alone and they charge $149 for the docking station and Microsoft isn’t scheduled to release Windows 8 until sometime in 2012.

Industrial Designer Andrea Ponti‘s concept for the Luce Solar Panel Powered PC  could be the First Solar Powered Laptop. This invention may become the greenest laptop ever made. While there are plenty of solar-powered peripherals that plug into your laptop to boost its battery power, we haven’t yet seen a model that runs solely on solar. Checkout more detail bellow.

The computer has two solar panels: One on the back of the monitor and one underneath a touch keyboard. Ideally, the two panels would be able to power the computer continuously, though it’s unclear whether this has been successfully tested. Using a laptop in the sun is far more battery intensive than indoors since the screen brightness needs to be cranked up to compete with the sun’s bright light.

One solution could be to use an electronic ink display in place of the usual backlit flat panel. Although the laptop includes a battery, the cordless design means your productivity will plummet in the evening — at least until you reach for another digital device.

The Luce, which means light in Italian, is made from a clear polycarbonate and weighs about four pounds. It was shortlisted in Fujitsu’s 2011 design competition.

There’s no word on whether Fujitsu plans to turn Ponti’s design into reality, but either way they’re not the only ones thinking about integrating sunlight into computer design. Last year Apple filed a patent for “harnessing external light to illuminate a display screen.”

In Apple’s vision, a reflector could fold down to brighten the display, and the company is rumored to be looking at integrating solar cells as well.

Asus jas just introduce their new G74Sx 17-inch 3D gaming laptop. Asus, a brand known for its Republic of Gamers (ROG) notebooks, announced its G74Sx gaming laptop at the Computex tradeshow. The G74Sx is Asus’s first 17-inch 3D laptop.

This G74Sx will feature a second-generation quad-core i5 or i7 processor and Nvidia’s latest GPU, the GTX 560M. This notebook will also have a full-HD Display and use Nvidia’s 3D Vision for 3D content.

Like its G72 predecessor, the G74Sx comes with an innovative thermal design which makes use of twin fans at both the front and back of the laptop to maintain constant air flow. Cooling technology is especially important for such a notebook as graphic-intensive games can generate lots of heat.

Also, the company has equipped the G74Sx with several easy-to-use overclocking features for better gaming performance.

Asus has not stated the price or release date for the G74Sx, although more details are expected to be announced in early June.

ASUS’ Eee Pad might still be difficult to track down, but at least all systems are go for the company’s other Honeycomb tablet, the Eee Pad Slider. Asus introduced the Eee Pad Slider at CES in January, but the company’s been pretty quite about the Android tablet with a slide-out keyboard ever since.

The company has posted a few teaser photos of the tablet on TechInStyle.tv, but there are no big surprises. While the company says the tablet has gone through additional testing since January, the only major change I can see is that the mockups show Android 3.x Honeycomb rather than Android 2.2 Froyo.

The company confirmed that the 10.1-inch tablet, originally slated for May, is “coming soon” no word, of course, on whether it will ditch Tegra 2 for an Atom Z670 CPU, as rumored. Next up, ASUS, give us a price, capiche? Last time we checked, the company was estimating it would cost between $500 and $800, so your guess is as good as ours as to how sweet a value this will be. There’s no word on pricing, but Asus will have more details during a pre-Computex news conference on May 30th.

Taiwanese PC maker MSI has revealed full specs for its GT660 notebook, first introduced in February. The 16-inch HD notebook is the first to include MSI’s Turbo Drive Engine+ (TDE+), which is said to double CPU, RAM and graphics performance with the press of a button, though no further details are given. The same goes for the Dynaudio-developed sound system, which is made up of two reportedly theater-grade speakers and a subwoo.

For gamers across the world, the company, in collaboration with internationally renowned professional recording and sound systems Dynaudio, utilized preeminent craftsmanship to fashion the king of gaming laptops. The new device with 16-inch HD LED LCD touts to be the first notebook in the world with MSI’s own Turbo Drive Engine+ technology that considerably leverages processor and display performance.

Toshiba bring Qosmio X770 gaming laptop surfaces with 3D optional. Toshiba’s Qosmio X500 gaming laptop got a modest update earlier this year in the form of the X505. Now this updates getting a proper successor with the company’s new X770 model.

In addition to boasting a more metallic enclosure, this one actually shrinks the display from 18.4 inches to a slightly more portable 17.3 inches still 1920 x 1080 display. but it expectedly doesn’t compromise much in terms of other specs. The standard config offers a Core i7-2630QM processor, 8GB of RAM, 1.25TB of storage from a pair of hard drives. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics. Also available is a separate X770 3D model, which adds a 3D webcam to the equation, along with a pair of active shutter glasses.

Intel exec shares more on Microsoft’s Windows 8 plans, will come in two major varieties: a traditional version with legacy application support and an ARM version that will not support legacy applications. The Windows 8 traditional version will have a Windows 7 mode for backwards compatibility and Windows 8 on ARM is primarily targeted at mobile and tablet platforms.

Intel Senior Vice President of Software and Services Renee James’ comments about Windows 8 during Intel’s shareholders meeting this week, but even the fact that James called Microsoft’s next-generation operating system by its codename will no doubt, be ill-received by the powers-that-be in Microsoft’s Windows division.The software giant is currently compiling Windows 8 E editions, despite axing the version shortly before the release of Windows 7. Microsoft originally started compiling E editions of Windows 7, which do not include Internet Explorer, during its beta phase in early 2009. Microsoft was forced to create special European editions of Windows 7 after the European Union originally accused Microsoft of anti-trust violations back in January 2009. The E editions of Windows 7 were scrapped after, in July 2009, Microsoft proposed a ballot screen to allow users to pick their default browser in Windows XP, Vista and 7. The European Commission accepted Microsoft’s plans in December 2009 after the software giant agreed to randomize the ballot screen due to several complaints from rival software companies.

It’s not immediately clear why the company is still creating E versions of Windows. The step could be part of a legacy build process at Microsoft or a precaution against any further investigations into Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Windows integration. Microsoft appears to be building multiple offerings of its Windows ARM version. Starter, Home Basic and Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate are all accounted for in Windows 8. Microsoft held a special press event at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January to introduce a technology preview of Microsoft’s Windows ARM support and show off an early build of Windows 8. Microsoft is partnering with ARM-based manufactures NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments to produce new Tablet devices.Microsoft is currently working on a Windows 8 “immersive” tablet user experience. However, the company may introduce Windows 8 ARM based tablets ahead of a full desktop release. Microsoft’s competitive tablet strategy is believed to be further along than expected. Dell’s recently leaked Tablet Roadmap revealed that the OEM has marked Q1 2012 as its date for a Windows 8 based slate.

James’ statement doesn’t contradict the little that Microsoft execs have shared about the company’s future Windows plans. Here’s a clip from Microsoft’s January 5, 2011, press release, which outlined Microsoft’s plans to support system-on-a-chip (ARM) processors with the “next version of Windows.”

“Microsoft Corp. today announced at 2011 International CES that the next version of Windows will support System on a Chip (SoC) architectures, including ARM-based systems from partners NVIDIA Corp., Qualcomm Inc. and Texas Instruments Inc. On the x86 architecture, Intel Corporation and AMD continue their work on low-power SoC designs that fully support Windows, including support for native x86 applications. SoC architectures will fuel significant innovation across the hardware spectrum when coupled with the depth and breadth of the Windows platform.”

During CES, Sinofsky said that “normal” Windows software will continue to run on Intel’s SOC with the next version of Windows without requiring any rewrites, according to ZDNet colleague Ed Bott. But he never promised “normal” Windows apps would run on ARM. Instead, Sinofsky only said Microsoft will insure that Microsoft Office will run on ARM SOC systems going forward. The ARM versions of Windows 8 are designed for tablets/slates and other devices where low-powered chips would be appropriate.Microsoft‘s decision to tap the ARM architecture is primarily driven by the fact that most of the current breed of Windows tablets running on Intel chips return poor battery life and the tablet landscape has been altered with the launch of Apple’s slimmer and lighter iPad 2, a format which has been followed by Samsung as well in its ultra-slim tablets – Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9.
