The police and military have beefed up
security along the Thai-Cambodian border after the arrest of three spies
working for Cambodia.
The alleged spies are currently being held at a prison Si Sa Ket Province.
The three spies, who have been arrested for allegedly spying on the location of Thai military bases and bunkers for Cambodia, have been transferred to the Kantharalak Prison in Si Sa Ket Province.
It has also been reported that one of the suspects has confessed to entering Thailand through Trat Province to spy on the coordinates of Thai military bases that are deployed along the border.
The suspect was arrested along with a number of strategic maps and photos in the four mobile phones he carried.
The Thai military has reportedly denied the request from Commander of the Region 4 Army of Cambodia Lieutenant General Jia Mon to hand over the suspects to Cambodia.
The police investigation team said that it has interrogated the other two spies, one of which is a Cambodian citizen while another is a Vietnamese national.
However, they have not been cooperative and often pretended not to understand the interpreters.
Meanwhile, security along the Thai-Cambodian border in Si Sa Ket and Surin provinces has been strengthened.
The local administration offices are closely monitoring those traveling though the border checkpoints. At the same time, Thai military forces in the region have been put on high alert.
Yesterday, residents of Surin Province, led by a local Buddhist monk, gave talismans to Thai soldiers deployed along the border in Phanom Dongrak District to boost their morale.
